it's been way too long!

I'm not sure what happened, but I somehow completely forgot about this blog. Actually, I think I do know what happened... 2 boys, a new job, and ski season. But regardless, I really did want to keep on doing this!

The boys are doing so great. They are 16 months old now and getting to be so much fun, still a handful, but a lot of fun. They are saying a few words now... mama, dada, da (for dog), night night, and they meow at the cat. They shake their head no and occasionally nod yes (though I don't think they quite mean it yet). They're babbling is sounding a lot more like conversation. They're both master crawlers but have no interest in walking. And this week, we successfully did away with pacifiers.

Luke is our more even tempered boy. He's generally happy, except for when his brother is playing with the toy that he wants. He loves his soft night-night lovey, and he gives wonderful hugs and snuggles when he wakes up in the mornings. He's a little ahead in the walking game, and I swear he should be able to do it without help, but he's just not interested. He loves playing standing up at his kitchen or with toys up on a chair, but as soon as you try to walk him and slip a hand away, he immediately sits down. He will only walk with both hands securely gripping yours. He is a cooking aficionado in his play kitchen. He can spend an hour cooking up fisher price little people or putting his cars in the oven and cupboards. And he is a champion at eating real food, too (both boys are really). Morning oatmeal seems to be one of the favorites and is always meet with cheers and hands in the air.

Sam is our feisty and funny one. He'll make funny faces and a piggy nose to get a response out of you. He's a sweet little boy and loves to sit with his mama and read books. But if you cross him, he will leave the bite mark to remind you not to do it again. Actually I've only been bitten once and I think it was by Luke, but they are pretty incredible at biting each other. Our daycare teachers ensure us the aggression is only toward each other, and they've never bit a classmate, which is reassuring. Sam's new favorite game is screaming at the top of his lungs. Peek-a-boo used to be a pretty innocent docile game, but is now a voice cracking scream in response every time mommy peeks her head around the corner. Sam seems a little less willing to sit in his high chair longer than he wants or to play on his own. He's the one more likely to be screaming at the baby gate when you're trying to finish dinner. He likes attention from Mom, Dad, and Grandma. He's also the one you're more likely to go downstairs to sleep with in the middle of the night when he's sick, but man does that boy know how to snuggle when you are sleeping with him. Sam seems a bit more like daddy--all or nothing.

They're both doing well at daycare. They've been in the same class since they've started and have bonded with their teachers. We think one of the teachers has a bit of a crush on Sam, and she's taught them both how to blow kisses. They're mostly figuring out how to nap at daycare ,which has been one of the bigger struggles. At home, they'll take a good 2-2.5h nap in the afternoon, but at daycare, we're lucky when it's an hour. So they come home worn out everyday and are generally ready for bed by 6:30 or 7 on weeknights.

They definitely make life challenging and exhausting. It's hard to ever feel like you have a day off or free time. But they are such happy boys (now that they're over the many colds, hand foot and mouth, roseola, and multiple ear infections each that they had at the beginning of the winter), and it's so fun to watch them learn and grow.
